Advanced Micro Devices(AMD)는 라스베가스에서 개최되는 2006 Consumer Electronics Show(CES)에서
「Live」브랜드를 발표할 예정이다.
Live는 홈 엔터테인먼트 PC 전용의 브랜드명으로, 로고 스티커를 만들어 데스크탑 PC나 노트 PC에 붙일 예정이다. AMD의 마케팅 아키텍트 Hal Speed에 의하면 Live 브랜드를 갖는 PC는 7.1 ch환경 사운드에 대응하는 등의 기능을 할 수 있게 된다고 한다.
AMD는 원래, 엔터테인먼트 업계의 고객 전용으로 판매하는 컴퓨터 기기에 Live의 마크를 붙이고 있었다. 예를 들면, 유명한 음악 프로그램 「Austin City Limits」의 무대 뒤에서는 AMD의 Live PC가 사용되고 있다.
Speed는 “이 프로그램에 사용되고 있는 기기에는 「AMD Live」의 마크가 붙어 있다”라고 말한다.
AMD의 Live 브랜드 전략은 Intel이 도입한 「Viiv」플랫폼을 닮아 있다. Intel은 홈 엔터테인먼트 기술을 갖춘 PC에 Viiv의 로고 씰을 붙일 계획이다.
Intel과 AMD의 전략 차이의 하나로서 들 수 있는 것은 Intel의 Viiv PC와 호환성이 있는 제품도 인정할 계획인 점이다. 이렇게 하여 호환성이 인정된 셋탑 박스나 다운로드 서비스, 음악 플레이어에는 Viiv 인정 로고가 부여된다고 한다.
또 Intel은 이 밖에도 대대적인 브랜드 전략을 재검토할 예정이다.
AMD도 다수 제품에 대해서 Live PC와 호환성을 테스트할 계획이다. AMD는 제삼자 조직이 정한 표준 사양에 준거한 제품과의 호환성을 확보할 예정으로 있으며, Intel과 같이 독자적인 인정 프로그램을 전개할 계획은 세우지 않았다고 한다.
“상호 운용성의 문제는 표준화 단체가 취급해 가야 한다고 하는 것이 우리의 생각이다”라고 Speed는 말한다.
또 AMD는 프로세서의 판매에 힘을 쏟을 예정이다. 한편, Intel의 Viiv 로고는 Intel 프로세서 뿐만 아니라, 칩 세트나 네트워크 컴퍼넌트를 탑재한 PC외에는 첨부 되지 않는다. 또, 이러한 시스템에는 Intel 소프트웨어도 탑재한다고 한다.
Live PC는 2006년 중반기에, Viiv PC는 제1/4분기에 판매될 예정이라고 한다.
